Precision vs. Jazz?

Precision vs. Jazz?

I was wondering what's the difference between a precision and jazz bass? My birthday is coming up and I want to be able to pick a good bass that I wont regret buying later but when I see the Fender basses I keep seeing P-bass or J-bass. Is there a difference really?

Also,when I do get my bass, what would be a good amp to buy that would be good for just practicing at home?

JAZZ Vs P.Bass Vs SPECIAL
Howdy, Can anyone give me a pointer towards which bass I want to buy cos i cant decide. Had a Squier P.bass, and found it so so, it wasn't calling me to play it, was set on buying a Squier Standard Jazz or Vintage Mod, to replace my stolen Rockbass

ok, so I've never owned a fender bass... ibanez, had a rickenbacker once, gibson etc etc etc... but i've never owned a fender, i had a play around on a friends Fender P bass, and tbh... i really liked it, i've usually only ever played with jazz basses so
